Incredible Experience, GoGo! Pyeongchang 2019!!!!!
At the beginning of 2019, I got an invitation through my campus (Kangwon National University) to join the Gogo! Pyeongchang program by EATOF. Me, who basically wanted to explore South Korea more broadly, finally tried to register this program. And do you know what? I was accepted!! I will join the program with hundreds of other people on February 14-17, 2019. Can't wait and I am very excited!!
The day has come!! In the morning, me and another student from KNU departed from Chuncheon to Jeongseon. We arrived at Jeongseon at lunch time and headed straight to Samtan Art Mine. This place is a project to reinvigorate a community and culture that became inactive. In this place, we also could see the shooting location of the Descendants of the Sun drama!! Such a memorable moment!!
From that place, we headed to Arirang Museum. In this museum, we could see the history, present, and future of Arirang, the most famous traditional Korean folksong and become an asset of UNESCO.
In this place, EATOF also carries out ARARI, a kind of opening ceremony for this GoGo! Peyongchang program. The opening ceremony was very grand. In this ceremony, we can see the performance of taekwondo, Indonesian culture (proud!!) and we also could feel singing the Arirang song!!
The next day, we headed to Goseong, a city on the border between South Korea and North Korea. Our first stop is Goseong Unification Observatory. In this place, we can see North Korea with our own eyes!! An unforgettable moment!!
After that, we headed to the DMZ museum. This museum contains historical war relics between North Korea and South Korea, like the sign of military, the friendly match jersey between North Korea and South Korea, and even a goat that appeared during the war also existed!! HAHA.
After lunch, we headed to Wolhwa Street and the Jungang Market in Gangneung. This place is one of the popular places in Gangneung and has a traditional market that sells various kinds of souvenirs, food, and so on. At a glance, this place is similar to Myeong-dong in Seoul or Chuncheon. This place has a famous street food, called Chicken Ganjong (닭강정). This food is so delicious!!
At the end of the day's journey, we headed to one of the 2018 Winter Olympic venues to try Curling. Curling is one of the Winter Olympics sports where Korea won a silver medal last year. This sport looks easy, but it is very difficult when practiced. But we really enjoy this rare experience!!!
On the third day, we really enjoyed Pyeongchang. On that day, we felt Sleddog, a fleeting snow sport similar to skiing, but with shorter heels. This sport is very fun!! I can't enjoy the snow in Indonesia. So, I really enjoyed this very valuable experience.
After trying Sleddog, we headed to the summit of Mount Balwang. The snow that had just descended on Pyeongchang a few days ago, made a very beautiful view on the mountain. An unforgettable moment!!
In the evening, prizes and closing ceremony of the program were held. And our group won a category!! Haha. It's nice to have a group with great people from various countries like you guys!!
The last day is a farewell day. We returned to Chuncheon after breakfast. After that, I finally parted ways with friends who became my partners for 4 days. It was very sad to part with them, but we promise to reunite together someday.
And it is the end of my experience in joining this GoGo! Pyeongchang program. During this program, I was able to meet great people from various countries and communicate about culture in their country. I can also enjoy Pyeongchang and other cities as tourist destinations in Gangwon Province. It was a very memorable and valuable experience. I will remember this experience for the rest of my life.
Thank you to EATOF for providing all facilities during the program. We really enjoy all facilities such as transportation, food, and a very good place to live.
I hope that I can participate in the EATOF Standing Committee Meeting in Vietnam later to feel the valuable experience of meeting great people again like in Pyeongchang.
See you again, EATOF !!
